It’s controversy in France after four consecutive nights of violent urban clashes to Dijon, city of the Burgundy. Last night, the French media reported, the police intervened again to disperse a group of one hundreds of men with covered facesarmed with iron bars, who wanted to defend the territory from punitive expeditions of the Chechen community, in the district of Grésilles. The Minister of the Interior, Christophe Castaner, spoke of “inadmissible” violence and the undersecretary Laurent Nunez is expected in the city today. In the pictures, some moments of tension and clashes in the French city.

Meanwhile, the right-wing opposition accuses the government of weakness. “It’s almost a theater of war,” thundered the Republicains deputy, Eric Ciotti, speaking of a “lax immigration policy” given that, he said, most of the arrested Chechens are asylum seekers. “Our country falls into chaos! What does Christophe Castaner do? There are gangs that launch into ethnic wars, weapons in hand, “he tweeted Marine le Pen, leader of the far-right Rassemblement National party, which announced a press conference this afternoon in Dijon. Even the leader of the radical left Jean Luc Melenchon deplores “the unacceptable chaos in Dijon”, asking on Twitter to “dissolve the armed gangs and disarm the gangs”. The clashes began on Friday evening and would have originated in the beating, on June 10, of a sixteen year old Chechen for a drug issue. Beaten by North African traffickers, the young man was hospitalized in serious conditions, while on the web appeals were made for revenge within the Chechen community in France.
