On the occasion of the update scheduled with the “model year 2021”, the brand has confirmed the return of the Mach 1 version, but will not end up on a crossover

After Bullitt, Mach 1. At Ford they have decided that the heir from the special limited edition version dedicated to the great Steve McQueen will be replaced by another iconic model the new Mach 1 which, 17 years later, the first was dated 1969 , will return available even as the Bullitt always in a limited series of units. Ford anticipated it with a teaser and camouflaged but official photos from which it is deduced that the aesthetic innovations are concentrated in the front grill that will have two unpublished circular openings that could bring back the classic additional headlights of vintage models. The bumper is also unprecedented, with specific air intakes and aerodynamic elements for a version that should also count on customized alloy wheels combined with Brembo brakes. At the rear, however, the car appears to have a fixed spoiler and four large circular exhausts.

FEW DETAILS

Ford has not disclosed other details, but has confirmed that the car will arrive with a naturally aspirated 5,000 cm V8 engine under the hood. Given that the Bullitt with the same displacement of 5 liters delivered 460 HP it is to be assumed that the Mach 1 will have a similar technical background. “Mach 1 holds a special place in Mustang history and the time has come for this special edition to take first place in the Ford performance range and thus reward the many Mustang enthusiasts who require that maximum level of power and collectability“Explained Dave Pericak, director of Ford Icons, the division that takes care of the brand’s vintage offer.

MACH 1 AT THE TOP OF THE RANGE

The American carmaker has also anticipated that Mach 1 will in fact be the most focused Mustang on the track. As known, Mach 1 made its debut on the Mustang model year 1969 and continued until 1978. Ford then revived it in the years 2003 and 2004 with a power upgrade, as well as with Brembo front brakes, gas shock absorbers, lower and stiffer springs, the anti-lock system and the interior leather upholstery. Finally, it should be noted that Ford is also working on a new Hybrid Mustang. The electrified step was originally scheduled for 2020, but it is unlikely that it will not arrive before the 2023 model year in conjunction with a more substantial renewal of the Ford Mustang offering.
