Gross tonnage of approximately 47,800 tons, 465 cabins and 930 passengers on board. These are the numbers of “Viking Venus”, the week cruise ship built by Fincantieri for the shipping company Viking, just launched by the group led by Giuseppe Bono at the Ancona plant. The roadmap will now continue with the interior fitting phase which will lead to the delivery of the new unit destined for Viking scheduled for 2021.

Vanguard ships

The new unit will position itself in the market segment of small units such as sister units. Viking ships are built according to the most recent navigation regulations and equipped with the most modern safety systems, including the “Safe return to port”. They are also equipped with motors high efficiency, hydrodynamics and optimized hull with consequent reduction of consumption and systems that minimize the pollution of the exhaust gases and that meet the strictest environmental regulations.

A long-standing partnership

The relationship between Fincantieri and Viking started in 2012 when the group of Bono gave confidence to the shipping company that was entering the market of ocean cruises as a start up. Since the first order of two ships, the collaboration has now reached 20 units in total, including the two special cruise ships ordered at Vard and the options. This is an absolute record, the largest number of units for a builder on behalf of a single shipowner.

Units already built for Viking

The first of the series, “Viking Star“, Was built in the Marghera shipyard and delivered in 2015. The subsequent units,” Viking Sea “,” Viking Sky “,” Viking Sun “and” Viking Orion “, delivered in 2016, 2017 and 2018, were built to Ancona, as well as “Viking Jupiter”, which joined the shipowner’s fleet in February 2019. 10 other units, including those in option, will take the sea from the Italian plants between 2021 and 2027.
