EU brakes on opening external borders – Last Hour


(ANSA) – BRUSSELS, JUNE 11 – The EU Commission recommends to
all States that join Schengen to withdraw i
internal border controls by 15 June, and of
extend the temporary restriction on non-essential travel
in the EU until 30 June, establishing a common approach for
gradually lift the restrictions, from July 1 in
then. Given that the health situation in some third countries is
still critical, Brussels does not propose a general revocation of the
restrictions. This was stated by EU Commissioner Ylva Johannson.

Travel restrictions at this stage should be
revoked for the countries selected by the common Member States
agreement, based on a set of principles and criteria
objective, including the health situation, the ability to
apply containment measures while traveling, and
evaluations concerning reciprocity, taking into account the
data from the European Ecdc Agency and the WHO.
