Esselunga starts the project to make water bottles more sustainable with its own brand using 50% recycled Pet and launches a new project that makes the recycling of plastic easier. The new generation of bottles is no longer tied to the classic green and blue colors but now everything is transparent. A choice that will make recycling of containers even easier. On average in one year Esselunga sells 80 million bottles of “private label” water and, with the transition to a 50% rPet package, the maximum limit allowed by Italian law, will cut the use of virgin Pet by over a thousand tons. The same 50% rPet is used for Esselunga brand milk bottles while with Tetra plastic
Rex Bio-Based products are packaged in the «Ready to eat» line. The chain also packs about 150 fresh fruit and vegetables in compostable and / or recyclable packaging. In some stores, these are those in Brescia Triumplina, Parma Emilia Ovest, Parma Traversetoloo and Lido di Camaiore, there are also the first eco-compacters for PET bottles. Another step to create a recycling model chain.
