There are 6,741,812 coronavirus cases in the world, 395,011 victims. The data updated at 8 in the morning by Johns Hopkins University shows that in the United States there are now almost two million infections (1,897,838) and 109,143 deaths. But the most alarming element is that the curve is still increasing, advancing to an average of over 20 thousand new cases per day: 21,614 on Thursday, especially in the south of the country. Great concern is also linked to the possible surge in the infections due to the protests taking place in all the United States.

Bolsonaro threatens the exit from the WHO

The Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro yesterday threatened to withdraw his country from the World Health Organization (WHO), as done by his American counterpart Donald Trump, accusing her of “ideological prejudices”. “The United States has left the WHO and we are thinking of doing it in the future. Either the WHO works without ideological prejudices, or we will leave it too. We don’t need strangers who make judgments about our health,” said Bolsonaro to journalists in Brasilia. Throughout the coronavirus crisis, like Trump, the president of Brazil has downplayed the severity of the disease.

In Brazil, there have been over 30,000 new cases of Covid 19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of patients to over 614,941, the second most affected country in the world after the United States. The total death toll is 34,021, the third most serious death toll after the United States and the United Kingdom but in Italy. The states where the highest number of new cases were recorded are those of San Paolo, with 5,365 positive (281 deaths), and Bahia, with 2,965.

United States, over 20 thousand cases per day

The United States registered 21,614 new infections on Thursday, a number lower than the April peak but an average daily increase in recent days due to new outbreaks in the South and in some parts of the west coast. In part, protests for George Floyd are not helping to keep social distance and limit contagions. According to a database of New York Times 18 states have seen an increase in new cases, 17 the number of new cases remain substantially the same, and 15 have seen it decrease. Nationally, the number of deaths recorded every day has dropped to less than half since the peak, but the daily budget was still on average 938 per day during the past week. There have been more deaths in the United States than in all other parts of the world.
