First a series of contagions among the postgraduates, then among the doctors, nurses and health personnel. A little coronavirus outbreak was intercepted in the Oncohematology department of the Niguarda hospital, in Milan. Health workers, they assure from the hospital, have already undergone extensive screening: they have tested positive 11 operators out of 190. “The numbers are small – they underline – and the situation is under control“. All patients in the ward were temporarily moved to allow the sanitation of the rooms.
The news, initially reported by Corriere della Sera, was later confirmed by the same hospital that still speaks of a “controlled diffusion“. In April, they explain, serological tests and swabs had already been done to all health professionals. Between late May and early June it was decided to repeat the checks for a doubt about some operators and some cases emerged: once the first infections were detected, the swab was made to all staff (including administrative) of the ward, but also of the day-hospital and outpatient clinic, as well as to all patients. Almost two hundred people in all, but “no other positive cases were found”. It took 4-5 days to sample and analyze all and in the meantime “all forms of protection necessary to protect patients, who are still fragile patients, and operators” were taken. The sanitization operations, explain from Niguarda “are an extra attention, but oncohematology activity continues“. From the structure, they draw attention to the fact that, although the numbers are small, the new small outbreak shows that “the virus continues to circulate and this is not the time to lower the attention threshold. ”
Support ilfattoquotidiano.it: never like now we need you.
In these weeks of pandemic we journalists, if we do our job with conscience, we do a public service. This is also why we are proud every day here at ilfattoquotidiano.it to offer hundreds of new content for free to all citizens: news, exclusive insights, expert interviews, surveys, videos and much more. All this work however has a great economic cost. Advertising, in a time when the economy is stagnant, offers limited revenues. Not in line with the access boom. This is why I ask those who read these lines to support us. To give us a minimum contribution, equal to the price of a cappuccino per week, fundamental for our work.
