After a six-hour indictment by prosecutors Valentina Bavai and Paolo Gubinelli, the Prosecutor of Ancona asked for sentences from 16 to 18 years in the process with abbreviated rite for the so-called spray band, a group of six boys from the Bassa Modenese, for the massacre of the Lanterna Azzurra disco in Corinaldo, where in the night between 7 and 8 December 2018 five teenagers and a mother died, crushed by the crowd at the exit of the restaurant. The six are accused of having sprayed a stinging substance to steal jewelry and chains, taking advantage of the confusion, a modus operandi that they would have already used in various parts of Italy. Today they were all present in the courtroom and listened impassively to the accusation’s requests, which already take into account the one-third reduction in the sentence linked to the abbreviated.
DNA and eavesdropping
On the evening of 7 December 2018, a crowd of young people waited for the performance of the trapper Sfera Ebbasta in the Corinaldo club; in the flee flee the victims died trampled while a concrete walkway collapsed in front of one of the exits. The investigations immediately highlighted the scarce security measures of the “Blue Lantern”. Decisive to get to the capture of the perpetrators were the DNA of one of the arrested found on a spray can found on the disco floor and a series of wiretaps (“We went to the party and six died …” said one of them) . Just the talks on the cell phone have shown that the band used to participate in very crowded concerts just to score thefts of chains and other objects. In addition to Corinaldo, the group would also act in Verona, Como and Porto Recanati.
«They hit even after the massacre»
The requests for the individual defendants are as follows: for Ugo Di Puorto and Raffaele Mormone 18 years of imprisonment, for Andrea Cavallari at 17 years 3 months and 10 days, for Moez Akari 16 years and 10 months, for Souhaib Haddada 16 years and 7 months and for Badr Amouiyah 16 years and 1 month. Slightly different penalties among the members of the criminal association, which take into account the contribution that everyone was able to give. “Everyone was well aware of their task, which they sometimes exchanged – the accusation explained in the courtroom -: one sprayed the stinging spray and tore the precious object, another made it disappear in his pocket”. “They all agreed, none of them were unaware” was the accusation’s thesis. The prosecutor Valentina Bavai, for his part, has focused on some wiretaps and has brought out the behavior of the gang, which would have affected even after the serious events of Corinaldo in other areas of Italy, with the same method. She had to explain that “the severity of the penalties required is justified not only by the behavior that preceded and that evening in Corinaldo, but also by the subsequent one”. In short, there was no sign from the defendants of collaboration in the investigation phase and repentance and participation for the 6 dead.
