There is no room for racism in the world and there is no room for racism on social media “. With these words the president and CEO di Coca-Cola James Quincey announced in a note the decision to suspend all advertising campaigns of the company on social networks, demanding greater reliability and transparency. Coca Cola thus joins the boycott of Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and the other platforms that have been targeted in recent weeks, accused of not doing enough to combat the presence of hate and racist content on their platforms. The American giant said it will stop all of its digital advertisements for at least a month starting from July 1st. The boycott, promoted by the Stop Hate for Profit campaign, has already been joined by other giants like Unilever,Verizon and Patagonia.

There Facebook reply she did not wait: “We invest billions of dollars every year to keep our community safe and we are constantly working with external experts to review and update our policies, “he wrote in a note. “We underwent a civil rights audit and banned 250 white supremacy organizations from Facebook and Instagram. The investments we made in Artificial intelligence – reads the note – allow us to identify almost 90% of the hate speeches on which we intervene before users report them to us, while a recent report by the European Union found that Facebook has examined more hate speech reports in 24 hours than Twitter and YouTube. We know we still have a lot of work to do, and we will continue to work with civil rights groups, GARM and other experts to develop even more tools, technologies and policies to continue this struggle. ”

we need you.

In these weeks of pandemic we journalists, if we do our job with conscience,
we do a public service. This is also why we are proud every day here at ilfattoquotidiano.it
to offer hundreds of new content for free to all citizens: news, exclusive insights,
expert interviews, surveys, videos and much more. All this work, however, has a great economic cost.
Advertising, in a time when the economy is stagnant, offers limited revenues.
Not in line with the access boom. This is why I ask those who read these lines to support us.
To give us a minimum contribution, equal to the price of a cappuccino per week,
fundamental for our work.
