Thunderstorms, gusts of wind and hail: bad weather returns to lash Northern Italy and the Civil Protection issues an orange alert for Lombardy and a yellow alert for Piedmont, Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, Northern Tuscany and, from early afternoon, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The disturbance from northern Europe
A new disturbance from northern Europe will reach Italy in the coming hours, bringing rain and thunderstorms to the northern regions. Already from this night, widespread and locally very intense rainfall is expected, accompanied by hailstorms, lightning and strong gusts of wind over Piedmont, Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy and northern Tuscany. Sunday, thunderstorm risk also for Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Seveso and Lambro under control in Milan
The Functional Center for Monitoring Natural Risks of the Lombardy Region has issued an orange critical notice from midnight today for hydraulic, hydrogeological and severe thunderstorm risks due to the residual perturbation that also remains on the Milan basin and which could lead to persistent phenomena also tomorrow. The Municipality of Milan will activate the Municipal Operational Center (Coc) to monitor the hydrometric levels of the Seveso and Lambro rivers and the local Police, Civil Protection and MM water services teams will be alerted to graduate the activation of the emergency plan.
Yellow alert in Genoa
In Genoa, the Region issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms from 8.00 to 24.00 on Sunday 7 June. The main waterways of the municipal area will be monitored throughout the day by the Civil Protection Volunteers and the Local Police. The Municipality of Genoa recalled that, during the hydrological weather alert period, citizens are required to reduce travel and adopt self-protection behaviors, preparing bulkheads to protect the premises on the street level, closing cellars and basements and securing their vehicles in areas that cannot be reached by flooding.
