Audi Q5: here’s what changes

BIG MOUTH – L’Audi Q5 is the medium SUV of the German, rival of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC. In 2017 the second generation was unveiled, the restyling of which is announced today: it will be on sale in the fourth quarter of 2020. The renewed Q5 adopts a new template: more laterally extended, it has 8 sides (2 more than before) and is mounted flush with the band no longer in relief, as before. The rest of the front fascia also changes, with new air intakes at the bottom, while the overall length of the car increases by 1.9 cm up to 468 cm. The headlights are also new, while in the rear comes the world first of the lights with Oled lighting technology, offered as an option.

LIGHT GAMES – Each Oled headlight dell ‘Audi Q5 it is composed of efficient diodes, which emit a vivid and intense light like the screens of smartphones and TVs with the same technology. The diodes give rise to 18 light segments, which can be switched on and off selectively to create play of light (watch the video lower): when the car is stationary, the lights create a light sequence to welcome or greet the passengers (the fantasy must be chosen when purchasing the Q5). The Oled rear lights also guarantee proximity signaling: when the car is stationary, if another road user approaches less than two meters from the new Audi Q5, all segments light up. As soon as the car starts moving again, the original characteristic lighting is restored.

GREEN WAVE – The edition 2020 dell ‘Audi Q5 it is also renewed internally, with the arrival of the new multimedia system MIB 3 which is controlled only by the 10.1 “touch screen (therefore the rotor on the central tunnel disappears). The MIB 3 is connected to the internet and offers a series of services provided by the home via the web connection. The most interesting is the Car-to-X: by connecting to the urban infrastructure, in the cities in which it is already active, it receives information from compatible traffic light systems and suggests to the driver the speed to be followed in order to go green with the next lantern.

NEW TURBODIESEL 2.0 – As for the engines, Audi has announced only the version Q5 40 TDI, which mounts a new turbodiesel engine 4-cylinder 2.0: it has 204 HP and 400 Nm, is Euro 6d approved and adopts a new aluminum base (lighter than 40 kg) and a renewed crankshaft (saves 2.5 kg). It also makes use of the light hybrid, consisting of an alternator with starter function (called RSG): in slowdowns, it is dragged by the heat engine (to which it is connected via a belt) and generates up to 5 kW of electricity , storing it inside a 12 volt battery; this feeds the integrated services to the onboard network. The RSG also optimizes the Stop & Start function when the car stops at the traffic lights or in the queue, with restarts they are faster and with less vibration; moreover, it allows the 4-cylinder to switch off and on again in the “sailing” phase starting from 22 km / h (ie when driving by inertia without the engine “running”). All this to improve the mileage, equal to 15.9 km / l.
