“almost a million downloads”

Coronavirus extraordinary emergency commissioner, Domenico Arcuri, has announced that the Italian Government’s Immuni app contact tracing system will be active throughout Italy from 15 June after an initial trial period in six Italian regions.

Arcuri, speaking on TG3 microphones, explained that “it will require that as many citizens as possible use it. In the coming days it will start fully in the pilot regions and the following week will be available on the national territory“. There testing phase will start on June 8th, one week before public activation.

In the meantime, important numbers continue to arrive in terms of adoption by the Italians, who evidently have chosen to marry the system. The Minister for Innovation, Paola Pisano, in hearing at the Transport Committee in the Chamber announced that Immuni downloads are close to reaching one million, almost double the 500,000 of the first 24 hours. Pisano explained that, despite the fact that activation throughout the country is scheduled in ten days, it is important to download it already now, and again stressed that for a close contact with a positive to Covid-19 to occur, a meeting is necessary at least fifteen minutes at a distance not exceeding two meters.
