“We have had a really critical time,” he says Baratta– just think that, normally, the Noa intensive care consists of 10 intensive beds and 8 subintensive beds. To face the health emergency that has hit our territory, we had to triple the number of beds, bringing them to 30, allocating them to Covid patients and also guaranteeing other critically ill patients. For this reason we have set up an intensive therapy from scratch in the rooms normally dedicated to the recovery room and operating rooms. We had to deal with a 24-bed sub-intensive space, also dedicated to Covid patients, and obtained from a normal surgical hospitalization that we had to adapt to the changed clinical needs. All patients were followed by resuscitative anesthesiologists dedicated entirely to these activities and, at the same time, we guaranteed the emergency / urgency activities of the operating rooms. In addition, our helicopter rescue service was one of the first to implement a protocol for the safe transfer of patients with Covid 19 “infection.
“First of all, I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, the Oss, the cleaning staff who immediately started working with a spirit of remarkable self-denial,” he added. Baratta– and special thanks must also go to Dr. Paolo Del Sarto and to the anesthesiologists of the Monasterio Foundation, who made themselves available to us. Finally, a special thanks to all those who, through donations, small or large, have enabled us to face this tragedy in the best possible way “.
“At Noa we went from having no Covid place to being able to welcome 200 positive patients during the peak period,” says the hospital director Giuliano Biselli. “And this was possible thanks to the fact that it could count on a new hospital, modular in space and flexible in its internal organization and, therefore, quickly adaptable to the healthcare framework dictated by the virus. But without the efforts and commitment put in place by the staff working there would have been impossible to withstand the impact of this pandemic, which hit particularly hard in the Apuan and Lunigiana areas “.
“Today the emergency is not over. We close the intensive care unit dedicated to Covid with the hope of not having to reopen it. But if the experience of these months should happen it has formed us and the virus will not take us unprepared” he concludes bevels.
