A completely new model in form, never before had Volkswagen launched an SUV with such a sporty style, born and assembled (at least initially) in Brazil. The Brazilian market will be the first to welcome Nivus, destined for also get to Europe – with production in the Pamplona factory – during the second half of 2021.
Inside it is great
4.26 meters long, with a pitch of 2.56 and based on the MQB-A platform (the same as Volkswagen T-Cross and Seat Arona, just to name a few), the Volkswagen Nivus has classic SUV coupe shapes, with a very sloping roof to give a more dynamic style, inserted in a style that embraces the stylistic features of Volkswagen, adding more sporty touches everywhere. Front with grill and lights, hood and side lines have a sharper appearance.
The most interesting aspect, however, concerns the internal space that benefits from the dimensions straddling segment B and C to offer 415 liters of luggage compartment, against the 373 of the T-Roc, but with less headroom because of the roof line.

The new infotainment
In terms of interior design, the Volkswagen Nivus aligns with the sisters, with the possibility of having the digital instrumentation and beside it (in raised position) the touch monitor for the new infotainment system called VW Play. Fully developed in Brazil, it uses a 10.1 “screen, giving a wide possibility of customization for screen graphics and user profiles.
Compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (the latter also with wireless function) and equipped with a dedicated app store it will be used on the rest of the Volkswagen range in South America and will then also land in Europe.
There engine range for the European market has not yet been communicated and given the arrival in a year we will have to wait a long time to find out what we will find under the hood of the Volkswagen Nivus. In Brazil, the SUV coupé will only be equipped with the 1.0 TSI 3-cylinder with 128 HP and 200 Nm of torque.
Once landed in the Old Continent we expect an offer in line with that of the T-Cross, therefore maintaining the 1.0 turbo petrol flanked by the 1.5 4-cylinder 150 HP and the 1.6 TDI 95 HP. And who knows, since it is a sporty SUV, the 2.0 TSI of the Polo GTI may not arrive.
At the level of the price list, as for the engines, it is too early to even try to sketch a starting price which, given the measures, should however be higher than the 20,400 euros of the T-Cross. The standard equipment should resume that of the sister with a classic roof, with the possibility of adding various options as adaptive cruise control and other driver assistance systems.
