Another night of clashes, bonfires in the street and violence a Minneapolis, in revolt after the death of George Floyd, 46-year-old African American killed by suffocation while being held on the ground by a police officer. An alleged one plunderer he was shot dead in front of a pawnshop by the owner of the shop and the police of the Minnesota, who stopped a man, investigates the murder. The appeal of the police chief of Minneapolis who had called for calm to prevent the accidents of the previous evening from happening again. Floyd’s death also ignited the streets of Memphis and of Los Angeles, and also Jacob Frey, mayor of Minneapolis, sided openly about murder racial background. “I’m not a public prosecutor – he said in an interview with Cbs – but I want to be clear: people who carried out the arrest killed someone. And these would be alive if it had been White“. Frey then invited its citizens to end the violence. “Please Minneapolis – he said in a tweet – we cannot let one tragedy generate another tragedy. We ask for your help to keep peace. ”
Protests in Memphis and Los Angeles – In the Californian metropolis several hundred people – all respectful of the rules of lockdown complete with masks – referring to the movement ‘Black Lives Matter‘- born in 2013 to protest the abuse of African Americans – blocked the overpass of the 101 freeway, in full ‘downtown’, after one march in front of the town hall, and they broke the glass of several police cars in the ensuing scuffles. But also a Memphis, in Tennessee, several thousand people took to the streets and blocked central Union Avenue with a sit-in.
Clashes in Minneapolis – On social media and the media circulate images of different episodes of devastation is fire of shops and supermarkets in the southern part of the city where Floyd was killed. In one of them we see an elderly woman in a wheelchair trying to stop the looters and is hit by the jet of a fire extinguisher. A Cub Foods, a Dollar Tree and a shop car parts they all showed signs of damage is looting. As darkness fell, the fire broke out in the shop of spare partscar, near the police station where the officers accused of the murder of Floyd, who was extinguished by the firefighters, were on duty. Protesters lit other fires in the street, setting another shop on fire. The police, local media reports, fired gastear and formed a barrier to prevent protesters from crossing the fence surrounding the police station.
