On the product page of SS5, a Turkish store, called hepsiburada, reported that Sony’s new console would be backward compatible with PS2, PS3 and PS4. We read the description because it leaves no room for doubt:
“Since all games from platforms prior to PS5 are supported, you will be able to continue playing. In other words, all PS2, PS3 and PS4 games are playable on PS5. With this feature, the Sony brand, which has stolen the hearts of gamers, will allow them to continue using their games without having to abandon them.“The description continues by citing the other known features of PS5, such as the AMD GPU, the super fast SSD and so on, that is, nothing that is not already known.
What to think of total backward compatibility described by hepsiburada? We tend to consider it a shop error, the result of a bad interpretation of the official info. For now, Sony has only announced that almost all PS4 games, and only PS4 games, will be playable on PS5. The Japanese company has never referred to full backward compatibility with PS2 and PS3. However, there is always the possibility of a surprise announcement during the presentation of the console, which as you surely know will be held on June 4th at 22:00.
