The President of the United States, Donald Trump postpones the G7, at least until September. Trump himself announced this by speaking to reporters. German Chancellor Angela Merkel yesterday announced that she would not attend the summit due to be held in Washington in late June due to the coronavirus emergency.
“I don’t think the G7 represents what’s going on in the world. It’s a very obsolete group of countries,” Trump said according to CBS. The president of the United States he would then suggest the possibility of inviting four other countries: Russia, India, Australia and South Korea.
In March, the White House announced that the summit, originally scheduled for Camp David in June, had been canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic and that leaders would meet by videoconference. Earlier this week the White House announced that the summit would take place in Washington in late June.
