Fiat Panda in electric version: the possible new model of the city car. The aim is to keep costs down to make it accessible to everyone. It should be available by 2022
A new Panda could arrive on the market starting from 2022. The new city car, combined with the 500 totally electric, it will serve to revive the brand in a sector such as family cars, which has always been in the company’s DNA.
After years of insufficient investment, with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) which has focused on the most profitable brand Jeep, now the time has come to revive a historical model.
This process will begin with the production of the concept One hundred and twenty which was presented to Geneva Motor Show last year. The director Olivier François he says that the ruthless attention to costs will be at the center of the creation of the new model, just as it was with the Original panda in 1980.
This means that some elements will remain basic, such as a very limited range of colors, and large plastic bands will probably be kept to protect it from urban scratches. Economic solutions that will allow to keep the budget low, focusing on the development of highly autonomous electric motors.

In an interview given to Auto Express, the Fiat Brand Global and Chief Marketing Officer, Olivier François, stated his intention to maintain Panda’s name and spirit: “There will be a glorious future for this model“He said. “That’s why I launched the last 500 initially as a convertible: high-end, full of options, at 30,000 euros. Because the day I present the future Panda, I will probably do the opposite. I will present the most naked version at an incredible price“.
“So yes, I really want a future for this model, because I think this is what makes Fiat so unique. There is no Fiat as a whole unless you have a Panda and a 500“.
The Panda will likely become the first Fiat model to use components from PSA – the group that includes Peugeot is Citroen – assuming that the proposed merger between the French company and FCA is completed in early 2021.
