The Seapass app, the one to have control over the turnout in the free beaches of the sea of Rome presented in Campidoglio on May 27, is not actually an app, at least not one of those that can be downloaded as, perhaps erroneously, said by the mayor Virginia Raggi in the press conference of the plan for the coming summer.

It is in fact a web app like, two days after the presentation of the same and on the first day of the 2020 bathing season, explained the Capitol: “The Seapass app is not available on the store because it is a mobile application (web app) or a website that can be consulted from any device connected to the internet. So it is not downloadable from the stores, but only accessible via the web on www.seapassroma.it“.

The clarification came because a misunderstanding had arisen. Not caused by the press, however, but by what the mayor Raggi had said explaining the characteristics of the app, or rather of the web app: “In practice it will function as a traffic light, the turnout will be linked to three colors: green when the beach is still free and there are many places available, yellow when the turnout starts to increase and the seats decrease, red when the beach is completely full and the turnout peaked. In this way anyone who leaves in the morning to go to the beach will be able to control through this app that it can be downloaded very easily and will be able to decide absolutely without stress whether to go to the sea or do something else that the Roman summer will offer, then stay in the villa or do something else“.

That “you download“said by Raggi at the press conference, plus the introduction of the statement of the Capitol which reads of a”mobile and tablet app“It has generated confusion so much that, almost all citizens, this morning has been messing around for hours in the iOS and Android stores to look for it in vain: the reason is now explained. The app is not an app, but a site that can be consulted from any device connected to the internet, in fact.

And that working in progress is clear, the open (virtual) construction site of the Seapass site also highlights this, which is by no means easy to find (it is not on the first page of search on Google). To find it, we recommend inserting the link of the site in the favorites of your smartphone and tablet.

On the portal under construction, although announced ready for the opening of the bathing season starting today, there are the individual stretches of free beach of Ostia, Capocotta and Castelporziano, divided by numbers and colors; in particular for Ostia each beach is named with various shades, yellow, pink, ocher and so on.

Then there is the “famous” traffic light that appears for each beach and which will indicate the availability of places on the beach – indicated with the poles, even these not all yet fully positioned – which are free or not for families or groups arriving on the sea of Rome.

However, the regulation, indications for parking and useful information are still missing, by clicking on those items, in fact, the message is clear: “We only ask you a little patience for the contents that will arrive very soon! Thanks“.
