According to rumors, reported by some users on 4Chan, the new chapter of the beloved series will be announced during the summer and will have as game director Naoki Yoshida, considered by many to be the man who gave Final Fantasy XIV a second life. The peculiarity of this hypothetical FF16 would be all in the combat system, a hybrid between what was seen in the fifteenth chapter and a soulslike with a pinch of strategy. The rumor claims that the project has been under development since 2017 on UE4 and that Square Enix is considering the idea of an upgrade of the game engine, that is, a switch to Unreal Engine 5. According to the rumor, Square would be in the process of also announce a new intellectual property called Crimson Arbitiumwhich would be nothing but a sort of spiritual sequel to Parasite Eve.
As much as this is undoubtedly interesting, the chances are that it is yet another rumor created by some bored user, since Square Enix is currently working on the second part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and it may take a while before that a new chapter sees the light.
