SpaceX, perfect launch. America celebrates: “Made history” – La Gazzetta dello Sport

With the Elon Musk rocket the United States returns to bring men into space. Trump also applauds in Cape Canaveral. The booster returned and landed vertically on the platform, on Sunday the arrival on the International Space Station

America celebrates. The launch of the Crew Dragon, the SpaceX capsule, was perfect, marking a very important step for the United States that after nine years bring men back to space. The spacecraft of Elon Musk and NASA, which definitively sanctioned the entry of private individuals into space, left the Kennedy Space Center of Cape Canaveral at 21.22 Italian on the dot, despite not optimal weather conditions, with veterans on board NASA Doug Hurley (54 years old) and Bob Behnken (50). Shortly thereafter, the first stage of the Falcon 9 rocket returned to Earth, regularly resting vertically on the Asds platform (Autonomous Spaceport Drone Ship), exactly as expected. And now it can be reused, thus greatly reducing costs. “We made history,” tweeted NASA after the launch, which was also attended by President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.

Tomorrow in the Iss

The capsule continues its journey towards the Space Station: the arrival is expected after about 20 hours and the docking maneuver is expected at 4:27 pm tomorrow; just over two hours later, at 18.45, the hatch is expected to open. To welcome Hurley and Behnken on board the Space Station there will be the American Chris Cassidy and the Russians Anatoli Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner.

Just the beginning

The mission, called Demo2, is the second test of the Crew Dragon capsule, which in March 2019 had made the first unmanned test flight, directed to the Space Station. On that occasion he had brought over 180 kilograms of materials and supplies on board: no astronaut but only a manikin, Ripley, who with his sensors had provided useful data on the stresses that future astronauts destined to fly on the capsule would undergo. Inevitable that from now on the launches will repeat, with the aim of reaching a lunar station in 2030.
