Already in the late Italian afternoon one looked at each other insistently forecast than in Cape Canaveral, in Florida, they may reserve surprises more frequently than other launch sites. And unfortunately the “adverse weather conditions” have stopped the Crew Dragon Demo-2 capsule. On board the capsule are astronauts Douglas Hurley is Robert Behnken, both selected by NASA in 2000 and with the experience of two shuttle flights each.
The first manned launch of the Crew Dragon shuttle represents only the last milestone in Elon Musk ‘s long race to space, which began in 2002 with the foundation of the Space X company and continued (not without stumbling blocks) between reusable rockets, interplanetary ‘grasshoppers’ and electric cars launched towards Mars. The entrepreneur’s goal has always been to develop innovative technologies to make the space more accessible and contribute to colonization of other planets. All seasoned with skillful marketing strategies and statements capable of making millions of fans around the world dream, such as the one from 100 thousand dollars to fly to Mars.
With the Dragon capsule, the SpaceX has been the first private company to launch a vehicle into orbit (in 2010) and then to the Space Station (2012). Today, with the Crew Dragon, Musk wants to go down in history for returning the ability to bring to the United States men in space. It will do it thanks to Falcon 9, a reusable rocket who in the past has had a double baptism of fire, with two explosions occurred immediately after a launch in 2015 and during a test in 2016. Now it remains only to wait for a few more regions, hoping for the clemency of the weather.
