Serie A will restart on June 20

At the end of the meeting that began on Thursday at 18.30 between the government, the FIGC, leagues and representatives of footballers, coaches and referees, the Minister of Sports Vincenzo Spadafora announced that the Serie A and Serie B championships will resume on Saturday 20 June. The Serie A League will now have to decide whether to start with the recoveries of the 25th day (Atalanta-Sassuolo, Verona-Cagliari, Inter-Sampdoria, Turin-Parma) or with the ten matches of the 27th day. The return semifinals (Juventus-Milan, Napoli-Inter) and the final of the Italian Cup will take place from 13 to 17 June.

Before the meeting, the Scientific Technical Committee had approved the match safety protocol, with measures similar to those implemented by the German Bundesliga in the last two weeks. In the Serie A stadiums, therefore, no more than three hundred people will be admitted, including players, staff, managers, referees, technicians and other employees. There will be no ceremonies before kick-off and all people admitted to the facilities will have to comply, when possible, with the spacing rules.

To obtain the green light, the FIGC has guaranteed the government two reserve plans in the event of a new suspension: the first provides for the interruption of the championship and its conclusion through the playoff and playout, while the second the “freezing” of the ranking. If, in the next few days, a positivity occurs between players and team staff, those who prove positive will have to stay in quarantine while the team will be able to continue training, but in isolation in its own sports center.
