Positive boy spits on him, 61-year-old taxi driver dies after a month

“I have coronavirus and now you have it too.” Those words keep echoing in the heads of Trevor Belle’s family, the 61-year-old taxi driver attacked and died for Covid-19 over a month ago. Their existence was turned upside down on March 22, when Trevor loaded a 19-year-old boy with an Irish accent into a street in London.
When he got out of the taxi, not only did the young man refuse to pay the nine pounds for the ride, but he attacked Trevor spitting in his face. Before giving his legs up he uttered what a tragic death sentence would have sounded for the taxi driver: “I have the coronavirus and now you have it too”. A crazy gesture that Trevor immediately reported to the police and told Kelly Esqulant, his 28-year-old partner and mother of his three children, when he returned home.

Only four days after Trevor began to experience the first symptoms of coronavirus. In a few days his condition worsened: he found it hard to breathe when he was taken to Royal London Hospital. The day he was hospitalized was the last one in Kelly saw him. The next day he was induced to have a coma, but first Trevor asked to donate blood to have it analyzed and to find a cure. “I know my Trevor, he was always willing to help, so that request was normal for him,” said Kelly. No more than 20 people were allowed to attend his funeral. “I still don’t understand how anyone can do something like this to another person,” continued Kelly, who cannot accept the loss of her husband. The story is similar to that of Belly Mujinga, the 47-year-old ticket seller who died after being attacked at Victoria station by a man who had spit on her: even in that case the attacker was positive and she died a few days later after contracting the virus .
