The objective of the screening campaign on civil servants is twofold. On the one hand it would allow to further expand the epidemiological framework of the region, with the acquisition of new data on the spread of covid-19. On the other, it aims to protect the health of workers in sectors that often interact with the public.
«Participation in the initiative is on a voluntary basis», explains Ricca. «But we hope that the adhesion is maximum. I also spoke to the mayor Appendino who said he was enthusiastic and proposed to leave the employees of the registry offices, who are more exposed to contact with users “.
In Turin alone, the municipal workers involved would be about 8500. But the goal is to subject the employees of all 1200 Piedmontese municipalities to the virological test. “We have welcomed the proposal of the Region”, observes Paolo Marchioni, mayor of Omegna and vice-president of Anci Piemonte. “With a view to a gradual return to the offices, the opportunity to have a clear picture of the presence of the workers’ disease would allow us to better organize the restart by protecting public health”.
Serological tests carried out from 4 May on health personnel and law enforcement agencies – also on a voluntary basis – showed an incidence of the virus between 6 and 8 percent. Now, with the staff of the public offices, an important new piece will be added. «The first tests – Ricca announces – will start in June. Our task, at this stage of the epidemic, is to be able to monitor the situation as a whole, to make sure that the restart is safe and is lasting. We must avoid falling back into the emergency, large-scale swabs can help us study the spread of the virus well and, consequently, they can give us a fundamental weapon to contain and neutralize it definitively ». –
