Ostia is ready: summer 2020 will be able to start in absolute safety. It is the verb of Virginia Raggi who, in a press conference on the Capitol, presented the so-called Strategic Plan for the 2020 Bathing Season, the application that “will allow free access to citizens by ensuring safety on the beaches of the coast of Rome”.

As Raggi said, the application will function as a traffic light: green if there are many places available, yellow when the turnout starts to increase and red when the beach is full and therefore you will not be able to enter.

The Seapass app for the free beaches of Rome

So anyone who decides to reach the sea will be able to control the app and decide without stress whether to go to the sea or do anything else, “says Raggi who proudly underlines:” So much you liked this idea that we will also share it with the other municipalities of Lazio“.

The application is called ‘Seapass – the sea of Rome’ and will soon be downloadable for smartphones. The information will be available on the website www.seapassroma.it, which is currently not active, but will be available starting May 29, assured Raggi.

What is certain is that to access the free beaches you will have to pass a controlled passage, with the operators who will register the presence with a PDA, but the location cannot be reserved.

Beaches: distances, stewards, sports and umbrella bar service. The rules in the regional ordinance

At most 6 people under an umbrella

But the news does not end here. The Capitoline Administration is installing wooden poles, colored in white and red, which will indicate where to park and therefore the space available on the beaches in accordance with the provisions of the legislation. Each pole will guarantee the use of a space of 25 square meters and can contain a maximum of 6 people.

The Roman coast will be divided into 3 sectors: Castel Porziano and Capocotta; Ostia Centro; Ostia Ponente. Each sector will contain multiple beaches and each beach will contain one or more gates.

In all, the gates will be 22 and will be manned by an operator who will monitor both incoming and outgoing people and will take care of entering the attendance data in real time on a PDA at his disposal.

The Lungomare di Ostia will be pedestrianized

“Safety is our priority. We must guarantee respect for physical distance which, as we know, is one of the fundamental measures to avoid the risk of contagion,” explained Raggi.

We have also decided to pedestrianize a stretch of Ostia’s seafront to welcome all those who will not go to the beach and who will be able to walk, use the bicycle or stop on the benches equipped with shading structures (details here).

Ostia, checks on the beaches for summer 2020

The big doubt, however, is that relating to controls. Who will take care of it? “To ensure compliance with the physical spacing, checks will be carried out by controllers, some of whom on board a quad bike, who will travel the beaches and the coast in all its length, from the Tourist Port of Rome to the beaches of Capocotta, preventing any gatherings on the beach, “says Raggi.

The Prefecture has also announced a “major commitment by law enforcement agencies to oversee both flows to the sea”. But who will supervise secondary accesses? Several times the X Town Hall and the trade unions of the brigade have emphasized how more brigades and more reinforcements are needed.

Free parking spaces in Capocotta and Castelporziano

This is why, probably, the anti-illegal parking plan between Capocotta and Castelporziano is skipped: no ban on parking this summer on the Via Litoranea, the road that leads to the free beaches par excellence of Rome.

The proposal studied by the junta of the M5S of the X Town Hall provided for limiting the parking areas on board the roadway, in theory already prohibited to cars, but Atac and the Mobility Agency have not given the go ahead to increase the bus shuttles and the Local Police in fact, it is short of agents.
