(Updated at 7.18) Coronavirus infections in the world are now 6,063,588, there are also 369,244 deaths, while the people recovered are 2,566,77035 in total.

Latin America, 52 thousand cases in 24 hours

With a record increase of 52,000 infected in just 24 hours, a week ended today which confirmed an acceleration of the pandemic in Latin America, with 975,406 confirmed cases and 50,110 deaths. This is what emerges from a statistic developed by ANSA on the basis of data concerning 34 Latin American countries and territories. The situation in Brazil is still alarming, which alone recorded over 60% of the day’s infections (33,000) bringing the overall total to almost half a million (498,440), with 28,834 deaths (+1,000). Peru (155,671 and 4,371) and Chile (94,858 and 997) follow. Among the countries with more than 5,000 cases, Mexico was reported fourth for infections (84,627) but second for deaths (9,415), ahead of Ecuador (38,571 and 3,334) which did not provide data yesterday, Colombia (28,236 and 890), Dominican Republic (16,908 and 498), Argentina (15,419 and 524), Panama (12,531 and 326) and Bolivia (8,731 and 300).

Saturday May 30th

(Updated at 16.58) Today there are 5,930,096 coronavirus infections in the world, 365,015 are also deaths, while the number of people healed are 2,495,712.

Uruguay, president and members of the government in quarantine

Uruguay’s president, Luis Lacalle Pou, his defense minister, Javier García, and other government officials have entered precautionary quarantine after being in contact with a head of the Rivera department, Natalia López, suffering from coronavirus. The newspaper El Observador of Montevideo reports.

The head of state, the Subrayado news portal specifies, follows the doctors’ recommendations and will undergo a first test today to check for the presence of Covid-19.

Last Monday Lacalle Pou, García and other government officials including the secretary of the presidency, Alvaro Delgado, held a meeting with Natalia López, director of the Ministry of Social Development of Rivera, a department on the border with Brazil considered the most worrying outbreak of coronavirus in Uruguay. Yesterday, the health authorities confirmed the positivity to Covid-19 of López, and this triggered the preventive isolation measures for the head of state and for the other participants in the meeting.

In the last few days, as in almost all Latin American countries, Uruguay has experienced an increase in cases of contagion which, according to the latest report by the health authorities, are 811, with 22 deaths.

New cases in Japan: a second wave is feared

Fears are growing in western Japan for a possible second wave of coronavirus infections after the detection of 43 new cases in a week in the city of Kitakyushu, half of which were found in a single day.

“We will have to recognize that we are in the middle of a second wave if the trend consolidates further,” said city mayor Kenji Kitahashi, a few days after Premier Shinzo Abe’s revocation of the state of emergency.

The dynamics of the outbreak of the pandemic worried the authorities, since the center located in the prefecture of Fukuoka had not recorded any cases of infections between April 30 and May 22.

In Tokyo, the Minister for Economic Development, Yasutoshi Nishimura told the press that traceability exists for only half of the reported cases, and a special commission of experts has been charged with investigating how the virus has spread. Local authorities suspect two outbreaks identified in two medical institutions in the city center, but the central government currently excludes the possibility of a new imposition of the state of emergency in the prefecture.

Belgium, 23 deaths and 125 new infections

In Belgium there are 23 deaths related to the Covid-19 pandemic recorded in the last 24 hours. The country’s health authorities make it known in their daily bulletin. The total number of victims thus rose to 9,453, 51% of whom died in a nursing home. However, of the latter only 25% of the infection has been confirmed, while the rest are considered suspicious.

The situation continues to improve in hospitals, which currently have 173 ICU patients, 24 fewer than yesterday. The new hospitalizations are 29, for a total of 890, while 87 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours (15’769 from March 15). The new confirmed cases are 125, for a total of 58’186 since the outbreak of the pandemic.

“New infections continue to be diagnosed in our area, but the trend is decreasing,” write the health authorities.

In Bulgaria 14 new cases and three deaths

In Bulgaria in the last 24 hours 14 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded (5 in the capital Sofia, 4 of them hospitalized) following 1,353 diagnostic tests carried out. The overall contagion balance thus rises to 2,499. As the authorities report, there are three new deaths, for a total of 139 victims (the average age is 67). A new case of contagion has emerged among the medical health personnel, whose balance rises to 255.

Record of new infections in India: 8 thousand per day

India has recorded 8,000 new coronavirus cases and 265 deaths in one day. The BBC reports it. This is the highest contagion increase in 24 hours for the continent since the start of the pandemic.

More than a third of the newly infected are found in the state of Maharashtra, one of the wealthiest. To date, India has recorded 173’763 Covid-19 cases and 4’980 victims.

Strong increase in victims in Latin America

The increase in infections (923’878, + 45’000) and deaths (48’508, + 1’900) due to the coronavirus pandemic which is reaching its peak in Latin America has remained very intense in the last 24 hours . This is what emerges from a statistic prepared by the Italian press agency ANSA on the basis of data concerning 34 Latin American countries and territories.

Brazil always leads the phenomenon with its 465’166 infected (+ 27’000) and 27’878 deaths (+ 1’100), followed by Peru where the people who have contracted Covid-19 are now 148,285 (+ 5,500) of which 4,230 died, and from Chile which has 90,638 infected and 944 dead.

Among the countries with more than 5’000 cases of Covid-19, Mexico stands out 4th for contagions (81,400) but 2nd for fatal victims (9,044), ahead of Ecuador (38,571 and 3,334), Colombia (26’688 and 853), Dominican Republic (16’531 and 488), Argentina (15’419 and 520), Panama (12’131 and 320) and Bolivia (8’387 and 293).

1,124 deaths in Brazil, 26 thousand infections

Fourth consecutive day with over a thousand Covid-19 deaths in Brazil: there are 1,124 victims in the last 24 hours. Which bring the balance in the South American country to 27,878, the fifth highest in the world. The Ministry of Health reveals it.

The number of new infections is also very high: 26,928, for a total of 465,166 cases confirmed since the start of the pandemic.

United States, 1,225 deaths in one day

The United States registered 1,225 new coronavirus deaths in 24 hours, according to the daily count of Johns Hopkins University.

This brings the total number of deaths in the country to over 102,000, by far the most affected by the pandemic. Since the first death of Covid-19 announced in late February, the US has recorded over 1.7 million cases.

Experts, including immunologist Anthony Fauci, a White House adviser, nevertheless agree that these official reports are underestimated.

New York partially reopens from June 8

The city of New York, the most affected by the coronavirus in the United States, will partially reopen on June 8. This was announced by Empire State Governor Andrew Cuomo. The easing of restrictions will start from manufacturing and the construction sector.

In France 52 new victims

There have been 52 victims of Covid-19 in France in the last 24 hours, and the total reaches 28,714 since the beginning of the epidemic, according to data from the Directorate-General for Health. Resuscitation patients continue to decrease (68 less than yesterday, total at 1,361) and inpatients, (total at 14,695, 513 less than yesterday). In its weekly press point, French Public Health announced that 109 outbreaks of Covid-19 are currently active but that none of them has caused a spread of the epidemic. The total number of cases confirmed by tests since January in France is 149,071. In the week of 18-24 May, swabs were carried out for 216,891 patients, 4,119 of whom tested positive, for a rate of 1.9%.

Norway and Denmark reopen, but not with Sweden

Norway and Denmark have announced that they will reopen to tourist movements between the two countries starting June 15, but they will maintain restrictions for the Swedes, who unlike their neighbors have not imposed restrictive measures and record the death toll from coronaviruses – over 4,000 – far higher among Scandinavian countries. The BBC reports it. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in a press conference in Copenhagen that Denmark and Sweden are at different stages with regards to the pandemic. Denmark is also opening up to tourist flows with Germany and Iceland.

In Turkey 1,141 cases and 28 victims in 24 hours

Covid-19 cases in Turkey rise to 162,160, with 1,141 infections recorded in the last 24 hours out of 36,155 tests carried out. There are 28 new victims, for a total of 4,489 deaths. The data are in line with those of the last few days. Intensive care patients drop to 662, with 324 intubated. The patients recovered grow by another 1,594, reaching 125,963. The total swabs since the beginning of the pandemic are almost two million. Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca reported in his daily bulletin. A new weekend curfew is expected in Turkey from midnight, while Phase 3 will start on Monday with the reopening of many clubs and public spaces, including restaurants, bars, beaches, parks and kindergartens.

Another 324 deaths in Britain, slightly down increase

The daily sum of coronavirus deaths reported in the United Kingdom falls only slightly, but remains high on average in European countries. Today’s data from the Ministry of Health, referring to the last 24 hours examined and disclosed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, in the daily Downing Street press conference on the emergency, there are other 324 – against 377 yesterday – bringing the official death toll with swabs to over 38,000; even if the very heavy estimates based on the statistical calculations of the ONS, the British Institute of Statistics (and extended to cases of suspected death by COVID-19), now exceed 48,000.

The total infections diagnosed since the beginning of the pandemic, on the other hand, include – healings included – 271,222, with a curve now stable in decline. While the daily tests performed rise to around 131,458, up to a total of over 4 million since March.

Cases rise, Israel evaluates a new squeeze

Israelis must return to follow the rules of distancing, wear masks and “regain discipline”. This was stated by the director of the Ministry of Health Moshè Bar Siman Tov who, in the middle of Shavuot’s party, called a press conference, in the face of the new spike in cases that occurred in the last few days after the end of the lockdown: only today there have been 85 new infections. “From this figure to 100 or 200 infections the way is short and from here to 700 or 1000 patients a day the way is even shorter”, he warned indicating in the 100 positives the “alarm bell” that could lead to new restrictions . There are cases in 31 institutions across Israel. ” But also – he added – the gatherings of people: “Our goal is not to hit the economy, but we need masks and social distancing.”

Austria revokes the obligation to wear masks

With June 15, Austria largely lifted the obligation to wear masks in public places. This was announced by Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, given the good epidemiological trend. The masks will only be worn on public transport, in the health sector (hospitals, health care residences and pharmacies) and for services where the minimum distance of one meter cannot be respected, such as for hairdressers. Even for waiters the obligation for the moment remains in force. From mid-June the closing hours of bars and restaurants will be extended from 11.00 to 1.00 at night. The maximum number of 4 diners for each table also expires. The famous Prater amusement park is already in operation again today. From this morning the big Ferris wheel turns again. “The wheel turns, the hotels open and life slowly returns,” commented the mayor of Vienna Michael Ludwig.

In Iran you have been at the peak for almost two months

COVID-19 cases in Iran rise to 146,668, with 2,819 infections in the last 24 hours, at peaks of almost two months and a sharp increase compared to the last few days. The new confirmed victims are 50, for a total of 7,677 deaths. ICU patients go back slightly to 2,547, while those recovered grow to 114,931. Iranian Ministry of Health spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour reported in his daily newsletter. The Tehran government has warned that it is ready to restore some closures in the event of a new pandemic peak, but this measure has so far been taken only for the western province of Khuzestan, on the border with Iraq. Other provinces in a “critical situation”, added the spokesman, are Razavi Khorasan, Eastern Azerbaijan and Western Azerbaijan, Lorestan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Hormozgan and Mazandaran.

In the USA up to 135 thousand deaths expected at the end of June

Coronavirus deaths in the United States could exceed 115,000 by June 20. This was reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Cdc), whose estimate ranges from 115 thousand to 135 thousand deaths by the end of next month, numbers higher than those prophesied by the President of the United States Donald Trump. The United States currently records 101,621 deaths and 1,721,926 positive cases, according to Jonhs Hopkins University.

WHO: “There will be new waves”

The coronavirus “has not disappeared” and with the relaxation of restrictions, we must prepare for the arrival “of new waves that will spread very quickly”. The World Health Organization (WHO) Special Envoy for COVID-19 David Nabarro said this to the BBC radio program today. Even if the lockdown measures are gradually eliminated in many countries of the world, people are invited by the UN agency representative, they will have to continue practicing social distancing as much as possible and isolate themselves immediately if they get sick.

There are 105 cases, 5 killed in Libya

Libya has recorded 6 other coronavirus infections in the last 24, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 105. The Libyan National Center for Disease Control announced on its official Facebook page, stating that the death toll rises to 5 and the healed to 59. There are currently 55 positive people. The presidential council of the Libyan national agreement government has decided to close the borders of the city of Sebha in Fezzan, where about twenty cases have occurred and to impose a total curfew for 7 days to prevent the further spread of the disease.

Latin America: 878,000 infections and 46,600 deaths

The coronavirus pandemic has accelerated again in the last 24 hours in Latin America, reaching 878,263 infections (+45,000) and 46,639 deaths (+1,900). This is what emerges today from a statistical processing carried out by ANSA on the basis of data concerning 34 Latin American countries and territories. Brazil is the country that worries the most, with its 438,238 infections (+27,000) and 26,754 deaths (+1,200), followed by Peru where the infected have grown significantly, reaching 141,779 (+6,000), of which 4,099 dead , and from Chile which also records a surge of infected to 86,943 (+ 4,700). Among the countries with more than 5,000 cases of COVID-19 Mexico stands out 4. for contagions (78,023) but second for fatal victims (8,597), preceding Ecuador (38,471 and 3,313), Colombia (25,366 and 822), Dominican Republic ( 16.068 and 485), Argentina (13.933 and 501), Panama (11.728 and 315) and Bolivia (7.768 and 280).
