It was October 18 of last year when a 6-year-old boy fell into the stairwell while he was at school. Four days later the boy died and the Milan prosecutor opened an investigation for manslaughter. That investigation has been closed and two teachers and a janitor now have to answer for manslaughter for having “caused the death of the child”, The public prosecutor Maria Letizia Mocciaro, believes that the three suspects are responsible for what happened “for negligence, imprudence, inexperience and non-observance of the rules “.

From the reconstruction the boy asked to go to the bathroom around 9.30. The teachers had allowed him to go out alone without accompanying him, despite the fact that they were two in class and without checking for the presence of the school assistant assigned to that plan. In fact, the janitor was not in place. So, while the boy was going back, he had approached the landing of the stairwell where he had found a swivel chair on wheels, abandoned and unattended, and climbed over it. Probably because of the balance, the baby had fallen from a height of 13 meters, causing injuries so serious as to cause them death a few days later in the hospital.

The Italian teacher and the support teacher are accused of having “omitted due supervision on the child “having allowed him to go to the bathroom” outside the scheduled time “and thus violating the regulations of the Institute and the school directive. The janitor, on the other hand, is accused of “not having served in the area of competence”, of not checking the child while he was going to the bathroom and of using the mobile phone for personal purposes while on duty. In addition, in addition to not checking the corridor entrusted to her, the school assistant was not even in the cubicle from which she could, instead, clearly see the little boy.
