Mercedes E-Class Coupe and Cabrio 2020: features, equipment, engines, prices and pictures


For Mercedes the time has come to announce the restyling of the E-Class Coupé and Cabrio which follows that of the sedan and station wagon of last March. In the dealerships the new models will arrive during the autumn of 2020. The Italian price list has not yet been made official.


E-Class Coupé and Cabrio are very important cars for Mercedes and for this reason great work has been done both inside and out to improve them. The main innovations are found in the front which has been made more incisive. Standard the full LED High Performance full LED headlights which have been revised in aesthetics to emphasize the sporty look. The new Matrix radiator grille it has an “A-shape” and helps to further characterize the front.

The tail, on the other hand, is characterized by the internal arrangement of the LED rear lights, completely renewed. It should be noted that the Stella module with integrated reversing camera is installed in the boot lid. There are four colors available: high-tech silver, metallic graphite gray, Mojave silver and Patagonia red (designo). Mercedes has also expanded the offer of alloy wheels that customers can choose from.

The Convertible has of a classic fabric top which thanks to a soundproofing system allows you to travel comfortably every month of the year. On request it is possible to have the system AIRCAP and AIRSCARF electric windbreaks.


Mercedes has worked hard to propose a interior that combines modern style with sporty refinement. The German manufacturer has chosen to use high quality materials to underline both the sportiness and the exclusivity of the models. The seats of the new E-Class Coupé and Cabrio have been designed to offer comfort but also good support during sporty driving and are equipped with a sophisticated adaptive adjustment system. By inserting your stature into the infotainment system, the seat will automatically assume a suitable position.

The new sports seats with an integral look they are equipped with accentuated side padding and integrated headrests. Customers will be able to choose from different combinations of materials.


The restyling brought as a dowry a rich endowment of latest generation ADAS systems developed by Mercedes. In this way it was possible to raise the safety bar while driving. E-Class Coupé and Convertible can intervene quickly if the driver does not react in dangerous situations. The steering wheel hands-off recognition system operates capacitively thanks to a series of sensors in the crown. If the car does not detect the presence of hands on the steering wheel, it will intervene by warning the driver. In case of non-intervention, it will activate the emergency stop system.

E Class is also equipped as standard with the active brake assist system which also works in the turning phase with crossing the opposite lane. Other Intelligent Drive functions can be added to the driver assistance systems on request.

Infotainment is the well-known MBUX that offers two 10.25-inch displays side by side as standard. On request it is possible to have larger 13.3-inch screens. Among the novelties the presence ofENERGIZING COACH, a service based on an intelligent algorithm that recommends one of the available programs to improve driving comfort based on the situation and personal needs. If a compatible Garmin wearable device is connected, the measured physical values ​​help improve the accuracy of the suggestions. Car protection packages are also available URBAN GUARD and URBAN GUARD Plus which allow complete surveillance of the parked car.


Mercedes brings the benefits of electrification to the new E-Class Coupé and Convertible. The four-cylinder diesel engine (OM 654 M), in the top version of 195 kW, is equipped with a 48 V Mild Hybrid system which allows to improve efficiency. The additional thrust provided by the integrated alternator-starter is 15 kW and 180 Nm.

This same hybrid technology is present on petrol a six cylinders in line (M 256) for the first time on the E-Class. In this case, the electrical support reaches a maximum of 16 kW and 250 Nm. The 4MATIC all-wheel drive is also available in some variants, which accentuates the sporty character of the guide. Even the 9G-TRONIC gearbox has been further refined to adapt to the hybrid system. The diesel engine offer is completed by an inline six cylinder (OM 656) in combination with the 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

At launch the Coupé will be available in the versions: E 220 d, E 220 d 4MATIC, E 400 d 4MATIC, E 200, E 200 4MATIC, E 300 and E 450 4MATIC. The Convertible, on the other hand, can be chosen in the variants: E 220 d, and 220 d 4MATIC, E 200, E 200 4MATIC, E 300 and E 450 4MATIC. Overall, the motor powers vary from 143 to 270 kW.


It could not be missing for both the Coupé and the Cabrio sporty version signed AMG, the E 53 4MATIC +. Aesthetically, these models are recognizable by the characteristic vertical lamella radiator grille, typical of AMG. At the rear, however, the circular bezels of the double tailpipes stand out, available in silver chrome or mirror polished black. The small spoiler on the trunk lid is painted in the body color but can be requested in carbon.

The new ones as standard 19-inch light alloy wheels in the design with 5 double spokes, with the 20-inch size as an option. With the AMG Night package, available on request, cars present an even sportier look. Even the interiors have been slightly revised to follow the high performance that these models offer. Present, for example, the AMG Performance steering wheel with integrated buttons. The seats in ARTICO man-made leather / DINAMICA microfibre in black with an AMG-specific graphic pattern feature red contrast stitching and an AMG nameplate.

At the level of infotainment some dedicated functions arrive such as the possibility of being able to recall various special screens, with engine data, gear display, Warm-up, Set-up, accelerometer and RACETIMER. Available five walking programs: “Slippery”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport +” and “Individual”. In this way, the driver can decide whether to accentuate efficiency, comfort or sportiness.

The highlight however is the engine, a 6 cylinders in line Mild Hybrid 48 V with 3 liters of displacement able to deliver 320 kW (435 HP) and 520 Nm of torque. The electric thrust is 16 kW (22 HP) and 250 Nm maximum speed is 250 Km / h Limited. However, it can be “unlocked” at 270 Km / h with the AMG Driver’s Package. In the classic shot from 0 to 100 Km / h 4.4 seconds (Coupé) and 4.6 seconds (Convertible) are enough. To transmit to 4-wheel drive of the 4MATIC + system with fully variable torque distribution all this power, a 9-speed SPEEDSHIFT TCT AMG gearbox.
