Leonardo Del Vecchio would have asked the authorization to rise to 20% of Mediobanca. According to rumors not commented on by Delfin, the holding company headed by the eyewear entrepreneur and which already holds a share close to 10% of the institution, Del Vecchio would have moved on Friday evening by submitting the application to the ECB through the Bank of Italy.

According to what reported by Repubblica, the answer should arrive within 90 days but the process could be even faster thanks to the fact that the request was sent through Bankitalia.

Del Vecchio had long harbored the ambition to go up to Piazzetta Cuccia, orphan in his opinion of a group of stable shareholders, now that there is no longer the union pact to govern the bank, which would preserve the balance of the institution and above all those of the key investee, that is 13% of Generali.

Evidently, thanks also to the fall on the stock exchange of Mediobanca, following the Covid epidemic, the entrepreneur helped by his consultants, including the lawyer Sergio Erede, believed that now the time was ripe for the big step.
