AMD’s CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, has won numerous awards in recent years as she has led her company from the brink of bankruptcy to becoming one of the best companies in the world as certified by S&P 500, both in 2018 and in the 2019. And that’s not all, Lisa Su is the first woman to lead the CEO’s salary analysis compiled by Standard & Poor, beating all other CEOs, with a $ 58.5 million compensation in 2019. A commendable result considering that female CEOs lead only 5% of the largest companies in the world.

The ranking does not include CEOs who have been working for the same company for less than two years, to avoid including engagement bonuses in the figures shown. While considering these factors, Lisa Su clearly detaches her colleagues: for example the second highest paid CEO on the list, David Zaslav of Discovery, brought home $ 45.8 million, while the second woman, Lockheed Martin’s Marillyn A. Hewson, took home “only” $ 24.4 million.

It’s a shame that Intel CEO Bob Swan isn’t on the list, and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang isn’t included, though salary.com attributes him a $ 13.6 million salary.

Su’s base salary amounted to $ 1 million, however the compensation increased by 338% over the previous year, thanks to the performance bonuses of $ 1.2 million, the $ 3 million of stock options and above all thanks to the 53 million dollars in shares. These extraordinary equity awards are a consequence of Team Red’s excellent market performance, in fact AMD stock went from $ 2.80 per share in 2014 to $ 52.74 in 2020, an increase of nearly 19 times.

In fact, Lisa Su also led the company to its highest share price in its 50 years of history: in February 2020 AMD shares touched $ 58.90. Both of these values exceed the company’s previous record of $ 47.50 set in 2000.

Su, who holds a PhD in electrical engineering, is considered the true architect of AMD’s rebirth. It has led the company back to profitability and competitiveness, gaining numerous awards, to the point that Forbes has included her among the top 50 most influential people in the world. In recent years, thanks to Ryzen processors, AMD has managed to regain huge market shares to the main competitor, Intel, also has renewed its graphic architecture for consumer GPUs with RDNA. Team Red intends to continue its ambitious roadmap with the release of Ryzen 4000 CPUs and GPUs based on RDNA2 and, if successful, could experience another stellar year.
