In all regions the cases are decreasing but the differences between the regions that substantially divide the country into three areas remain. Even in Lombardy there is a daily decrease in cases “, said the President of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS), Silvio Brusaferro, at the weekly press conference at the ISS on the progress of the Covid-19 epidemic.

The epidemic curve is stable and falling. Now the more we go towards a limited number of cases, the more sensitive the system will be to identify cases immediately. The share of asymptomatics is growing “.

There is a large oscillation of the contagion index Rt on the territory. But Rt is not a report card but a dynamic tool that helps us understand what happens and should be read with other data, explained Brusaferro. The contagion index Rt is reported below the value 1 in all Italian regions except in Val d’Aosta, where there is a value of 1.06. The data emerges from the weekly monitoring report on phase 2, illustrated during the press conference at the Istituto di Sanita. For the Val d’Aosta the index is considered a momentary oscillation while Lombardy is decreasing.

“Italy is multi-speed but we have no signs of overloading hospital services, both as regards intensive care and as regards wards. The goal is to avoid the re-start of epidemic curves knowing that there will be episodes of regrowth of cases in the territories “.

Today the virus is still circulating and we cannot loosen individual protection measures, said the president of the ISS. However, the small peak in Molise and Umbria quickly returned, he concluded.

The monitoring system is not a judgment or report card for the regions but is an instrument. The data we have today is good data but it is data that gives us the guarantee of the regions’ ability to intervene. Right now, said Brusaferro, everyone’s collaboration is needed.

“We cannot rule out an increase in the coming weeks – said President Silvio Brusaferro – but it is not a weekly report of the regions. But we can walk with confidence knowing that there may be times of increase in cases but also knowing that we have a system able to intercept them “.

The issue of “mobility between the Regions must be addressed with an even smaller number of new cases than we have,” said the president of the ISS. On the other hand, the index of contagions Rt “changes on a weekly basis and I would exclude it as a criterion in this regard for displacements. But also the methods of movement are important, that is, how you move”, he specified.

“To keep the identification attention of outbreaks constantly high even during the summer”. In this sense “overall it seems to me that the resilience of the Regions is increasing”, added the new director general of the Ministry of Health’s Prevention, Gianni Rezza at the ISS press conference. Rezza pointed out that from phase 1 to phase 2, individual responsibility and public responsibility are capable of detecting small alarm signals.

“THE monitoring data are currently encouraging. They tell us that the country has held up well with the first openings of May 4th. But woe to think that the game is won. Maximum caution is needed. It doesn’t take much to nullify the sacrifices made so far, “said the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza.

The director general of theItalian Medicines Agency, Nicola Magrini, which, regarding thehydroxychloroquine, he said: “We know little about efficacy, about possible harm and lack of safety in some limited patient subgroups, we are pretty sure.”

“There are more promising vaccines, 5-6 at an advanced stage, and Italy also participates in several ways. In my opinion, the reasonable time to think about a vaccine is spring, next summer, I don’t think there will be any vaccine available for September – explained the AIFA CEO -, while counting very good results, as phase 1 studies seem. We hope for next year and hope for more than one and that the production capacities are adequate “.
