Press note of Carpi following the proposals formulated in Executive Council of Lega Pro.
The Emilian club asks that, in the event of a return to the pitch, albeit through the playoffs, all four places will be up for grabs, thus involving in the play-offs Monza, Vicenza is Reggina.
Below the press release:
In light of what emerged from press sources regarding the proposals made yesterday by the Lega Pro Council (end of the regular season, promotion to Serie B of the first of the three groups and dispute of play-offs “with voluntary participation” to identify the fourth promoted ), Carpi FC 1909 recalls that it has always maintained the need to return to the field – even before the assumption of the shareholders’ meeting of 7.05.2020 that had awarded Carpi himself according to the criterion of sporting merit (average points) – since he believes that it must be maintained the integrity of the competition.
If, on the other hand, for health needs, the choice was made to redesign the perimeter of the tournament with reduced formulas (play-off and play-out), Carpi – being only 8 points away from the L.R. Vicenza Virtus currently first in the standings, with a race to be recovered and another 11 days still to be played – believes that it would be more than ever contrary to the principles of loyal sports competition if a company was declared the winner of the group because of Covid-19 instead of for merits competitive. Companies – including Carpi – who aspire to access the higher category must therefore be guaranteed the possibility of winning the final victory of their group and, in any case, the opportunity to compete through eventual play-offs not for a single place – such as approved by the Governing Council of the Lega Pro – but for all four.
This, moreover, would be in line with the principle of safeguarding the integrity of the football competition also included in the UEFA Circular 24/2020, taken up by CU 196 / A FIGC, according to which, if it is not possible for calendar reasons to complete the regular season , “It would be preferable that the suspended National competitions resume with a different format in such a way as to still allow the clubs to qualify on the basis of the sporting merit determined by the completion of these competitions with different formats”.
