If in recent months a Hong Kong there has been an apparent calm due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the threat of tight control by China is current again. On Friday 22 May, the Chinese central government presented a controversial security law which wants to ban “treason, secession, sedition and subversion” and which should be implemented “without delay”. This legislation has been welcomed with concern, as shown by the thousands of people who have come to the streets of the capital to express their disapproval.
If the text is not known as a whole, the Chinese Parliament has nevertheless revealed the main lines. One of the most worrying points is the possibility for the Chinese police to intervene in Hong Kong, a point, however, disputed by Carrie Lam.

For many Hong Kong residents, this text seriously threatens the principle of “one country, two systems” which they defend tenaciously and which should guarantee them, until 2047, the freedoms that are guaranteed in China.
The concern of foreign investors lies in the stock markets, with the fear of an increase in tensions between China and the United States of America if this law is to be implemented.
