Yoshinori Kitase, the producer of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, she wanted change the story even more original radical, giving another direction to Midgar’s narrative arc. Kitase talked about it in an interview released on the Push Square site, to which however she did not reveal the details of her vision.
To oppose his project The director and co-director of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Tetsuya Nomura and Naoki Hamaguchi, intervened, who wanted to keep the story more recognizable than the original.
Kitase: “Personally I wanted to change the story in a more radical way, but director Tetsuya Nomura and co-director Naoki Hamaguchi wanted to keep as much of the most loved aspects oforiginal. Finally, the development team decided to respect the original, while adding new elements, working to maintain a certain balance between the new and the old.”
This is a really interesting fact, since Kitase worked as director of the original Final Fantasy VII. That he wanted to shake off the heavy one heredity by Hironobu Sakaguchi? It is difficult to say how difficult it is to understand at this point if a revolutionized story would have actually benefited the game.
