The journey to the airfield. Laughter with friend. Carefree moments on a sunny Sunday in late May. The last minutes of Fabio Lombini’s life are published on Instagram before the disaster. The 22-year-old swimmer from Forlì had in fact published stories, which immortalized the moments before the flight. Mobile phone in hand, Fabio had resumed the plane on which he would travel with Gioele Rossetti. In the last frame Gioele and Fabio are seated on board the ultralight, with Rossetti engaged in the last operations before operating the vehicle.
“Did you say how an airplane lights up?” he hears Fabio ask with a smile while Gioele pushes some commands on board. A few minutes later they would have fallen to the ground from 300 meters high. The plane immediately caught fire and there was nothing for the two young people to do. Lombini, silver at the 2017 absolute winter championships in the 200 freestyle in 1’44 “60 behind Filippo Megli and ahead of Filippo Magnini, former national at the Taipei Universiade and at the European short-tank championships in Copenhagen in 2017 (eighth in the 200 freestyle in 1’45 “05), he was carrying out a collegiate training at the federal center of Ostia followed by the technical manager Stefano Morini and accompanied by his coach Alessandro Resch.
