The Austrian government has given the go-ahead to the organization of Austrian GP, on the Spielberg circuit that will open the Formula 1 season: two races are scheduled, on 5 and 12 July, which will become the world’s first sports competition after the restrictions imposed by the virus.

In the first days of the week, FIA and Formula 1 they will formalize the calendar the first part of the season, which will include at least eight races in Europe. Some, such as the Austrian one, will take place twice on the same circuit a week apart. The same should happen for example in Silverstone, which in the draft calendar would be scheduled for the first two weekends of August.

In the second of the two races could also debut a novelty in the format: to avoid the photocopy effect between one GP and the other and introduce an element of unpredictability, FIA and Formula 1 have in fact proposed to change, only for the Gp bis, the mechanism of qualifications. That would be replaced by a sprint race (the number of laps to be defined) whose grid would be determined by the championship standings of the moment, but reversed: therefore the first in the standings would start last, the second penultimate and so on. This proposal had already been presented last year, but had not obtained the consent of the majority of the teams, which now would seem more likely to accept it. The first reaction was almost unanimous support. A few more days and you will understand if the necessary unanimity will be obtained.
