“In 2020 there will be one great crisis». Word of William Strauss is Neil Howe, two scholars whose views have influenced leaders like Bill Clinton is Al Gore. It seems that they had prophesied what is happening this year with the coronavirus no less than 29 years ago. There is no mention of a pandemic, but the words spoken in 1991 are effective. For them “the crisis of 2020 would have been comparable to the other great tests sustained by our ancestors” and would have represented “the next great cornerstone of history”.Among the hypotheses of book written in four hands and titled “Generations” there was an environmental disaster, a nuclear threat or an economic defeat. The theory behind the prophecy, re-emerged thanks to the New York Times, is faithful to the cyclical trend of the history of the United States: something important happens every 80 years. Strauss has been dead for 13 years now, while Howe is alive and can see the theory. A crisis that is not having effects only on America, but on the whole world.
Howe also leaned over the political class that can lead the United States out of the impasse. The current ruling class will have to be replaced by a new one made up of young people born just before the start of the new millennium. There are also the names of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 30, Pete Buttigieg, 38, and Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri, 40. Politicians of the older generation have underestimated the coronavirus and the consequences of climate change by facilitating the arrival of the pandemic. If the ‘new’ New Deal were to come, the Republicans currently in power would be put out of action.
