11.12 am – Phase 2: the Vatican museums reopen from 1st June
“Starting from June 1st, after almost three months of closure, it will be possible to return to visit the Vatican Museums in total safety”. This was announced by a note from the Vatican museums which also speaks of the reopening to the public of the papal villas of Castel Gandolfo, as well as of “extraordinary sanitary measures for the safety of visitors and staff and new opening hours”.

10.40 am – Iran, Rohani announces reopening of holy places from Monday
Iranian President Hassan Rohani has announced the reopening of the country’s sacred sites starting on Monday, the day after Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim holiday held at the end of the month of Ramadan.

9.36 am – Cgia, 100,000 artisans will disappear without aid
In the first 3 months of this year, the total number of craft businesses in Italy fell by 10,902 units, a negative figure, however in line with what was recorded in the same period of the previous 3 years. The CGIA points out that underlining that “the worst should unfortunately come in the next few months, when the negative economic effect of Covid will be felt with greater intensity”, specifying that without adequate aid, by the end of 2020 Italy will lose 100 thousand of its artisans. «In these two and a half months of lockdown, – argues the coordinator of the Cgia Studies Office, Paolo Zabeo – many craftsmen without any income support have gone into difficulty and there have been few who have speculated to throw in the towel and definitively close the shutter. 9.14 am – WHO, over 100 thousand cases in Africa
The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Africa has exceeded the 100,000 threshold: the World Health Organization reports on its website, stressing that the virus has reached every country on the continent.

8.48 am – United States, over 96 thousand victims
The death toll in the United States has now exceeded the 96 thousand mark: this is what emerges from the updated data of the American University Johns Hopkins. Currently in the country there are 1,601,434 cases, of which 24,104 in the day yesterday, while the people recovered are 350,135.

8.39 hours – India, over 6,600 cases in 24 hours, still record
India has recorded another record of coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours at an altitude of 6,654 after the 6,088 recorded in the previous 24 hours: the Ministry of Health announced today, according to the CNN. The new infections bring the total to 125,101: so far 3,720 people have died from the disease in the country.

8.26 hours – In Mexico a record increase in deaths, 479 in 24 hours
Mexico has experienced its greatest daily increase in deaths in one day: according to the Ministry of Health, 479 were killed, while 2,960 were the new cases of infection. In total, the epidemic in the country killed 6,989 and infected 62,527 people.

5.28 am – Hertz declares bankruptcy in the USA and Canada
The global car rental giant Hertz, in crisis due to the consequences of the coronavirus, has filed for bankruptcy in the United States and Canada. The company announced it in a statement. “Covid-19’s impact on the relocation application was sudden and dramatic, causing a sharp drop in the company’s revenue and future bookings,” he said in a press release. 5.16 am – China announces: zero infections have been reached
China has announced that it has not registered any new coronavirus infections for the first time since it started collecting data in January. The announcement came the day after the opening of the People’s Congress, in which “great successes” were celebrated in the fight against the virus. The official death toll for Covid-19 in the country is 4,634, well below the number declared by much smaller countries. Doubts have been expressed in recent months about the reliability of the data released by Beijing.

2.07 hours – Brazil, over 330 thousand cases: it is the second country in the world
The situation in Brazil is increasingly dramatic, where according to the ministry of health there are over 330,000 cases of infection. The South American country has thus also surpassed Russia (326 thousand) and is the second in the world in the number of cases ascertained after the USA (over 1.6 million). The confirmed deaths in Brazil are more than 21 thousand.
