Reggio Emilia: 78,000 must be recovered and before mid-June no new reservations. Health director Marchesi: “The Covid emergency is not over yet”
HOSPITALS IN ALERT
Healthcare managers have to deal with the imponderable effects of reopening Phase Two. The first signs are positive, because the easing of the May 4 lockdown did not cause an increase in cases. «Now we have to evaluate what will happen following the openings of 18 May and then with those of 3 June, when it will be possible to move between regions and the European borders will be opened. At the moment, even if the situation is under control, in the region there are still new cases of double-digit contagion and therefore prudence is necessary ».The Ausl is rescheduling the postponed visits, but does not yet have a date to allow new reservations. In light of the deadlines indicated by the director Marchesi, it seems unlikely that non-urgent specialist visits can be booked before mid-June, if not later.
In this phase of reprogramming of specialist and surgical activities, the Company is confident of understanding citizens, “also in light of the fact that emergencies, as well as indifferent care for non-Covid patients, have always been guaranteed during the emergency period and they still are ».
At national level, and not only, this block of non-indifferent visits will not fail to present the bill. In recent days theItalian Association of Medical Oncology has released an estimate according to which in March and April cancer diagnoses in Italy decreased by 52%. It has been speculated that part of the deaths that have occurred in these months (statistics show an increase over last year that is greater than Covid’s victims) is a side effect of the epidemic, since resources and attention have been devoted, necessarily, to contain the infection. Also there Italian Society of Cardiology has raised the alarm regarding the risks of non-diagnoses and spoke of an increase in triplicate deaths due to heart attacks.
After the stop due to the epidemic, the radiology services in the hospitals of Reggio Emilia, Correggio, Guastalla, Montecchio and Scandiano resumed, the visits and exams booked in the facilities of the accredited private individual and the invitations for the screening of breast and cervix. Relocations for breast, neurological, cardiology and physiatric visits have started, albeit in limited numbers, thanks to the availability offered by accredited private structures. “In a few days the blood samples will also start again,” says the director Marchesi.
The waiting lists for visits (also a topic at the center of the recent election campaign for the regional ones) will be affected by the suspension of these months but also by the new procedures that must be adopted to avoid the spread of the infection. For withdrawals, direct access will no longer be possible, but it will be necessary to book and avoid gatherings in the waiting rooms. The Ausl will have to reorganize its agendas with parameters other than the pre-Covid ones. “All of this will happen while the emergency is still ongoing.
In the Santa Maria hospital alone there are nine checkpoints to enter. ” Also in phase two, protecting hospitals from outbreaks is a priority and therefore safety measures are not destined to disappear.
The times for each service will dilate and the healthcare companies are working to minimize the inconveniences that are inevitably already evident. –
