8:16 – flight from Bangkok with 160 Italians on board
A special Thai Airways flight departed from Bangkok last night to Rome Fiumicino, on which 160 Italians have been stuck in Thailand since, in order to deal with the coronavirus emergency, international flights were suspended. Sources from our embassy in Bangkok, which organized the return flight arriving in Italy earlier today, told ANSA. Thailand, usually visited by over 250 thousand Italians a year, has stopped incoming flights at the end of March, despite an extremely low number of infections compared to the Italian figures, with today’s total of just over 3 thousand cases and 53 deaths. The emergency decree, which includes the closure to air arrivals, has been extended until 30 June, leaving thousands of European tourists stuck and unable to book a return ticket on one of the very rare special flights organized by the embassies.
