9.42 am – Swimming, the Panpacificio Games 2022 canceled
The coronavirus also blows up the 2022 pan-pacific swimming championships. The organizers have announced that the event will return directly in 2026, always in Canada but with headquarters still to be designated. The postponement of the Tokyo Games to next year had in fact a domino effect, leading to the postponement to 2022 of both the Commonwealth Games and the Fukuoka World Cup and it would have been difficult to organize a third major event such as the Panpacifici in the same period.
9.36 am – Golf, canceled the first PGA tournament open to the public
It was to be the first open door tournament after the inaugural 4 shooting without audiences. Instead, the John Deere Classic, the PGA Tour golf tournament originally scheduled from 9 to 12 July in Silvis, Illinois, was canceled from the 2020 calendar due to the health emergency.
9.18 am – MotoGP, official: Silverstone and Phillip Island canceled
Fim, Irta and Dorna Sports announced in a note the cancellation of both the British Grand Prix and the Australian Grand Prix due to the coronavirus emergency and the consequent changes made to the future calendar. The overseas weekend was initially scheduled from August 28th to 30th on the Silverstone circuit, the Australian GP, however, would take place in Phillip Island from October 23rd to 25th.
8.22 am – Cricket, the “World Cup” in Australia at “serious risk”
There is a “very high risk” that the cricket World Cup, scheduled in Australia in October and November, will be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Twenty20 World Cup however would most likely be played behind closed doors.
8.15 am – Football, Austria: Lask violated the rules, loses 1st place
Lask Linz, leaders of the top division of the Austrian championship, the Bundesliga, relegated to second place and fined 75 thousand euros for violation of health regulations and for having resumed training before it was authorized. The sentencing took 6 points off the club. Lask has announced that it intends to appeal. According to footage received from the League, the team trained four times with a full team at a time when only groups of up to six players were allowed to fight the spread of the new coronavirus. The six-time RB Salzburg champion, three points behind the Linz team before the championship suspension, returned to the top of the standings. The Austrian Bundesliga still has ten games to play this season. The matches will be held behind closed doors every three days to recover the ground and finish the championship in the first week of July. Lask, meanwhile, has filed a burglary complaint claiming that a camera has been broken into their stadium to spy on their training sessions in April and May.
8.08 am – Mls allows resumption of training in small groups
Passes and shots allowed, but at a distance: half the pitch divided into six areas and small groups of players who must not come in contact or get too close. These are some of the guidelines with which the American MLS has consented to the resumption of team training.
