Hygienists, nurses and doctors like Daniela Deserio that after spending four years in Sudan, he didn’t think twice when he saw the call. “Thinking about working in a field hospital in Lombardy, in Bergamo, one of the richest provinces in Italy it was not imaginable“Says the doctor who has moved to a hotel room near the fair since the beginning of April. A structure raised in nine days thanks to the teamwork of Alpine troops, artisans, Atalantine fans and many volunteers. Those who knew how to pull up a wall did so while Emergency brought theexperience gained in Sierra Leone during the crisis related toebola in 2014: “We brought some of the practices we have here learned in Africa obviously adapting them to a virus and to a different context “, explains the president of Emergency, Rossella Miccio. So the design of the spaces could follow the philosophy of separate paths for the “clean-dirty” for minimize the risk of contamination. In these departments have passed over one hundred and twenty patients. “The most beautiful moment is waking up after intensive care – says the nurse Elena De Costanzi – it was an immense joy to see them talking for the first time in a video call with their family members “. The last patient was discharged on Saturday, but the hospital will not close. It will be converted into a follow up center for post-acute analysis of over two thousand patients. Among Emergency operators there are those who will return home and those who will continue their work elsewhere: “Our work does not end there – concludes the president – we will continue to train around Italy, but also in the countries where we have been present for some time. There the peak phase has not yet ended and we are worried because now that the attention is all on our home, we are forgetting that we cannot do it alone. I hope you will also look at what will happen outside our borders “.
