Coronavirus – Austria, Minister of Health on the reopening of borders: “Italy is still an outbreak”

No opening of the border Austria-Italy, at least not now. A few days after the statements of the Austrian chancellor Sebastian Kurz, who had defined the “irresponsible” hypothesis, even the Minister of Health in Vienna Rudolf Anschober reiterates the government line.

“Italy is still a hotbed, although in some regions the situation has improved and the commitment is great, “he said in an interview with the newspaper Oberoesterreichischen Nachrichten. “I am a supporter of freedom of movement, but we still have to be cautious with Italy, “he added, citing 382 Covid cases per 100,000 inhabitants for Italy against 55 in Croatia and 70 in slovenia. The minister stresses that for now the negative buffer requirement for entry into Austria remains in force and does not fear diplomatic discontent following his declarations.

“It is true that the slovenia claims to have positive data, but it is also true that from Slovenia it is easy to get to Italy“, Said the minister, recalling that border controls remain in force with Ljubljana. However, if Kurz had specified that nn any reopening by the summer “will depend exclusively on the epidemiological trend of Italy”, the Ministry of Interior of Vienna specified that tourists from Germany and from Switzerland will be able to cross theAustria to reach Italy.
