Sunday dead Carlo Durante, former blind Paralympic champion, three times Gold Medal for Sporting Merit and Silver Lion of the Coni Veneto. In marathon he wrote memorable pages in the history of the Paralympic sport. Medalgold at the Paralympics in Barcelona in 1992, silver at the Atlanta Paralympics in 1996 and bronze in Sidney, in 2000, then at the age of 58 he also participated in the Athens Games. He would have been 74 at the end of June, he had an illness on his bicycle while he was in the company of a friend in the Treviso area.

Among the many titles won also a World championship in 1994. state European champion three times (1991, 1993, 1997). It established itself as Italian blind champion from 1990 to 2004, on all distances. A very rich palmares that earned him numerous institutional awards (including 4 silver medals for Sporting Merit and 5 bronze medals for Sporting Merit). It can boast more than 70 marathons worldwide with three editions of that of New York, in addition to those of Boston, Monaco, London, Venice, Bologna, Florence, Milan, Padua, Brescia, Carpi, Turin, Rome, Cesano Boscone , Treviso and almost half of the Duerocche editions. Pioneer of the Paralympic movement in Veneto, he also dedicated his life to the activity of promoting sport for the disabled.

I am saddened by the disappearance of Carlo Durante. A giant of Italian sports leaves, a star of the Paralympic firmament declared the president of the Italian Paralympic Committee Luca Pancalli. In addition to being a champion, Carlo was a point of reference for our movement also for the activity of promoting sport for all. I take this opportunity to express my closeness and that of CIP to his family and loved ones.
