Back to school, the indications of the Technical-scientific Committee: masks, remote benches but no measurement of fever


In September we return to class but with the mask (for pupils over six years) and strictly one meter away from each other, in the classroom but also in the laboratories. The meal must be eaten in adequate spaces or in the classroom in a packed lunch box. You will enter staggered school but the fever will not be detected at the entrance. If you have 37.5 degrees, however, you must stay at home. These are these the most important measures that the Technical scientific committee he outlined for returning to school in a few months. In the afternoon, the Minister of Education Lucia Azzolina and the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza they received the elaborated document: 24 pages containing the indications that the ministry will take into consideration, together with those elaborated by the task force, to start again safely.

The physical distancing, hygiene and prevention measures are the cornerstones of the document. The first step concerns the entrance to school: “All possible organizational measures will be to be privileged – the committee writes – in order to differentiate the entry and exit of students both through an hourly staggering and by making available all access routes, compatibly with the structural and safety features of the school building, in order to differentiate and reduce the risk of assembly“.

Stop to parents in school spaces and stop the use of classrooms for non-educational purposes. The classes will also change: the CTS asked a reshaping of the benches, seats and school furniture, in order to guarantee the interpersonal distancing of at least one meter, a measure that must also be ensured in the area of ​​the chair and blackboard. While in the gym the meters will become two. But in the first and second grade secondary schools, if these distances cannot be guaranteed, he could return distance learning. The management of outdoor spaces will also change: in the recreation areas, in the corridors, routes must be provided that guarantee the distancing between people, limiting the gatherings, also through a special one signposting.

criticism the situation for the canteens: “Even for school meals – the document cites – the individual schools will have to identify ad hoc organizational solutions that will ensure the necessary distancing through space management (refectory or other suitable premises), of the times (shifts), and residually through the supply of the meal in the ‘lunch box’ for consumption in the classroom “. A separate chapter is dedicated to sanitary measures: in several parts of the school building and in each classroom, some must be installed hydroalcoholic solution dispenser to disinfect hands.

It also specified the indications for the mask: teachers, principal and collaborators will have to wear it all the time and to them will be provided by the school. Pupils over 6 years of age must bring it for the entire period of stay in school premises, subject to due exceptions, for example during physical activity, during the meal or the questions, as it will happen for the second cycle state exams.

In this regard, however, the document of the CTS it does not clarify whether the school will provide it. Indeed it seems that the pupils will have to be autonomously equipped with community masks, that is disposable or washable masks, even self-produced. No mask for the little ones (under six years) and for the disabled who cannot wear it. Another story for the assistants of the disabled: as it is not always possible to guarantee physical distance from the student, “it can be foreseen the use of gloves and eye protection devices, face and mucous membranes “.

The CTS has also carefully studied the situation of the primary school, where physical distancing is more difficult: “In this case it is necessary to ensure additional indications and resources about the regular cleaning of surfaces, frequent hand washing, criteria of reduction in the number of pupils simultaneously present in the classroom “.
