The “Global mark of safety and hygiene” represents a first step in getting international tourism moving again. And it can be obtained by hotels, restaurants, airlines, cruise ships, tour operators and airports once they demonstrate that they have established and comply with strict health and hygiene protocols, according to the WTC standard.
The first to obtain the green badge were Saudi Arabia, Barcelona, Portugal, Cancun, Seville, Trip.com and Expedia. But the list will be updated and implemented day by day, so that “travelers will be able to recognize the companies and destinations that have adopted the new set of global protocols”.
«For the first time ever, the global private sector has gathered around Safe Travels protocols, which will create consistency across the industry. Implementation by governments around the world will restore confidence to restart the travel and tourism industry. “
«We welcome the global WTC security protocol and the Safe Travels protocols. This is the key to building trust and we will only succeed if we work together, “said Zurab Pololikashvili, UNWTO secretary general.
