Morocco’s airports recorded a volume of commercial traffic of 2,014,660 passengers in January 2020, compared to 1,866,604 passengers in the same period last year, an increase of 7.93%, according to monthly data from the National Airports Office (ONDA).
Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca handled more than 42% of total passenger traffic, or 849,177 passengers (+ 8.15%), compared to 785,160 passengers in 2019, the same source said. Most of the other airports recorded positive results, notably Marrakech-Menara (+ 9.56%), Tanger Ibn Battouta (+ 19.98%), Laâyoune Hassan 1er (+ 27.81%) and Essaouira Mogador (+47 , 42%). In the same month, domestic traffic recorded a strong growth of around 10.43% with 244,384 passengers, while international air traffic increased by 7.60% and represented 87.87% of traffic overall with 1,770,276 travelers. The European market, which accounts for more than 78% of total international air traffic, grew by 6.34%. Similarly, the segment of Africa, which occupies the second position in terms of passenger traffic, experienced an increase of + 7.09%.
The markets of the Middle and Far East, the Maghreb and North America recorded double-digit increases, with positive developments of 13.09, 21.59 and 29.09% respectively.
