On the edge of the interview about the 2021 Tour de France course, Wout van Aert indicated that he will soon be sitting at the table with the management of Jumbo-Visma to talk about his future with the team.
Van Aert still has an agreement with the Dutch WorldTour team until the end of 2021, but after his strong performance in recent months, it is logical that both parties will meet early to break open and extend the current contract.
We wanted to know whether, in addition to the financial aspect, his role in the Tour de France will become an important item in those discussions. “That shouldn’t be on paper, but I think career planning is important,” says Van Aert. “I am ambitious and have goals that I want to pursue. The discussion is coming soon and then we will indeed also talk about sports. But in that respect, the team and myself are on the same wavelength. ”
With which the winner of Milan-San Remo and two Tour stages, among other things, makes it appear that he would like an extended stay with manager Richard Plugge’s team. “I reached my best level this year, partly because I am part of this team. It is an environment in which I feel at home and in which I perform at my best. ”
