“Dom Cummings has left 10 Downing Street for good tonight and has decided not to stay on until Christmas,” Tom Newton Dunn, Times Radio’s political chief commentator, wrote on Twitter. Moments later, the same news was reported by the British public broadcaster BBC and Sky News.
According to the BBC, Cumming and Johnson met on Friday and it was decided it was best for the top advisor to leave immediately. Cummings was seen on Friday evening leaving the British Prime Minister’s residence with a cardboard box.
In recent days there has been a power struggle in Downing Street. Cummings was right in the middle of that. Communications director Lee Cain previously announced his departure.
The direct reason for the rising power struggle was the planned appointment of a new chief of staff. According to Cummings, Cain was supposed to be, but that was not counted Carrie Symonds, the fiancée of Boris Johnson, and other top women around the prime minister.
